Timothy Hall benefit at Longwood Ranch

The LMR All-Star Big Band is a 20-player big band drawn from an internationally accomplished group of musicians that has played jazz across the world. Featuring the charismatic and soulful voice of Clairdee, the inimitable vocal style of Billy Valentine and the soaring lyricism and masterful technique of Dmitri Matheny on the flugelhorn, just to name a few. This truly all-star ensemble is once again being assembled for the Fourth Annual TIMOTHY HALL FOUNDATION Benefit Performance at Farmstead at Long Meadow Ranch. The benefit performance is one of northern California’s most outstanding jazz events each year.

Niel Levonius, our musical director, has been performing and recording around the world with a mix of leading jazz, pop, rock and hip hop groups from The Temptations to the GRAMMY Award-winning Pacific Mambo Orchestra.

Steffen Kuhn has become a mainstay of the Bay Area jazz and Latin music scenes since arriving from his native Germany in 1997. He won a 2014 Grammy for Best Tropical Latin Album and has played with artists such as the Temptations, Four Tops, Tommy Igoe and many more.

Brian Switzer has been a teacher and an active member of the Bay Area music community for over twenty-five years. He’s played around the world and is the solo trumpet player for GRAMMY Award-winning band, Train.

Dmitri Matheny is celebrated for his warm tone, soaring lyricism and masterful technique on the flugelhorn. Throughout his career as a concert and recording artist, Dmitri has distinguished himself as an educator, community leader and advocate for jazz and the arts.


Mary Fettig (alto), a Bay Area native, was the first woman to play in the Stan Kenton Orchestra while attending UCLA. Currently residing in the Bay Area, Mary maintains a busy recording and performing schedule as the “first call” player.

Fil Lorenz (alto) has been active on the Bay Area music scene as a saxophonist and bandleader currently leading the Fil Lorenz Orchestra. He draws from a wide range of musical experience playing with artists from across the globe.

Steve Steinberg (tenor) has performed with many top jazz, R&B, and popular performers such as Natalie Cole, Rosemary Clooney, Mel Torme, The Temptations, Frank Sinatra Jr, George Shearing, Aretha Franklin, and many others.

Tod Dickow (tenor) has worked with top artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, Frank Sinatra Jr. and Dave Brubeck over the last 30 years. Currently, he leads the Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, a 16-piece band in the Bay Area.

Aaron Lington (bari), GRAMMY Award-winning baritone saxophonist and composer, is a Professor and Coordinator of Jazz Studies at SJSU. Dr. Lington has worked with Bo Diddley, Maynard Ferguson and many more.


Rick Walsh, a graduate of the Berklee College of Music, is a gifted musician with skills as a trombonist, bassist, music copyist, arranger, and orchestrator. He has worked with the leading musicians from movie soundtracks to Broadway.

Dr. Jon Brummelis a freelance performer, educator and technologist. With a DMA in Trombone Performance, Dr. J has performed in many styles and venues including Skywalker Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, and Carnegie Hall.

Ted Hall, President & CEO of LMR and co-founder of Monarch Records, has performed with jazz greats Arturo Sandoval, John Handy, and Kurt Elling, and is a voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (GRAMMYS).

Dan Gordon, a tenor & bass trombonist and the Gordon Biersch brewmaster, grew up in Los Altos. Dan has recorded with Michael Davis on Absolute Trombone II and Curtis Campbell’s blues album, Live at the Sweetwater.


Art Khu (piano) began playing piano at 4 years old. With a BA in Piano Performance from Oberlin Conservatory, Art also plays guitar, bass and violin, and composes jazz, as well as classical music, including a full symphonic work for the Oakland East Bay Symphony.

Curt Moore (drums), an accomplished recording artist and clinician, is the former principal drummer for the Bay Area’s iconic Full Faith & Credit big band. Curt has over 100 recordings and has shared the studio with extraordinary artists.

David Weeks (guitar) is a superb guitar player and vocalist. He cut his teeth with the U.S. Navy Music program, teaching jazz improvisation at the Armed Forces Music School. Recent performances have included blues greats Charles Musselwhite and Roy Rogers.

Andrew Higgins (bass) has been playing with a wide variety of performers in the San Francisco Bay Area for 25 years. He has performed, produced, and arranged extensively with local and international artists including Rita Moreno, Super Diamond, Lion King, and Wicked.


Clairdee is an international touring artist acclaimed for her inventive artistry and magnetic stage presence. She is a teaching artist with SFJAZZ and the SF Symphony education departments, plus a faculty member of the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley, CA.

Billy Valentine has written numerous songs with greats such as Will Jennings and the Neville Brothers and his varied career has taken him across the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. He also co-wrote the title track “My World” for the incomparable Ray Charles.
