SUMMARY:Katie Thiroux Trio With Great Guests Mary Fettig & Noel Jewkes
DESCRIPTION:KatieThiroux is a bright star on today’s jazz scene\, getting attention for her bravura bass playing\, assured singing and compelling compositions. After receiving accolades for her debut album\, “Introducing Katie Thiroux” (2015)\, her most recent album\, “Off Beat \, ” was awarded a “Best Album Of 2018” by Downbeat Magazine\, and Katie was tagged as “Rising Star” in 2018 & 2019. \nReferred to us by Jeff Hamilton\, Katie carries on the hard swinging tradition of such bass masters as Ray Brown and John Clayton\, while channeling iconic singers like Anita O’Day\, Chet Baker and Ella Fitzgerald. If you need any more reasons to join us\, consider these quotes from jazz critics on the premier jazz website All About Jazz: “…flat out phenomenal… Thiroux’s bass playing is superlative…her soloing summons the spirit of Ray Brown.” \nIt is no coincidence that the Trio’s drummer\, Matt Witek\, has been mentored by Jeff Hamilton. Their cohort\, Pianist Justin Kauflin\, performs worldwide\, is recorded on 31 albums (6 as leader & producer)\, composed original film scores for 6 projects including the critically acclaimed documentary “Keep On Keepin’ On\, ” published 84 original compositions & arrangements\, and serves on the faculties of several jazz camps. \nAs if a Trio of this caliber is not enough\, we have added two very special guest reed players to the presentation. Mary Fettig is well known to jazz audiences in the Bay Area and beyond. Mary was the first woman to play in the Stan Kenton Orchestra and is known as a very imaginative soloist. Noel Jewkes is a favorite of musicians and fans alike. His work on tenor sax channels the great lyrical stars of the past\, particularly Lester Young. \nProducer Bill notes: I got to see Katie working with a couple of our favorite sax players (Scott Hamilton & Harry Allen)\, and decided our folks deserve this extra element of swing. \nPLEASE NOTE THE LATER START TIME OF 5:30 – DOORS OPEN AT 5:00….NO INTERMISSION….MUSIC ENDS AT 7:00.
